Liberty Farly, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2024, at the age of 80. Born on May 28, 1944, in Kali Vrisi, Kastoria, Greece, Liberty immigrated to the United States at the tender age of seven, settling with her family in New York. Liberty embraced New York as her lifelong home, where she grew into a vibrant, loving, and compassionate woman who made an indelible impact on everyone she met. She went on to graduate from Parsons School of Design and became a designer while raising her two young daughters, who were truly the light of her life. Faith was a very important component in Liberty’s life. Not only was she an active member in the Greek Orthodox church but she also shared her gift of song in her congregation’s choir. She was also very active in her charity work whether it was knitting for children with cancer or organizing the Midnight Run at her church. In her later years, Liberty moved to California to be closer to her daughters and grandchildren. She relished the joy of family gatherings, sharing stories, and creating memories that will be cherished by her loved ones forever. Liberty will be remembered for her striking beauty, infectious laugh, her unwavering love for her family, and her ability to bring people together. She was a pillar of strength and kindness, whose legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Liberty is survived by her loving daughters Alexis (Edward) and Christine (Michael), adoring grandchildren Erica (Colin), Amanda, Edward (Sidney), and Sarah, great grandchildren Kieran, Teagan and Theo, as well as countless friends and family. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, who she spoke of fondly and missed deeply.
There will be two funeral services for Liberty. The first will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at 4:00 pm at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Long Beach, California. The second will take place on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at 11:30 am at Church of Our Saviour in Rye, New York.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her honor to a charity of your choice. May Liberty’s memory be eternal, and may her life continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
