Maxine Joy McKinnon

March 21, 1928 — July 12, 2025

Huntington Beach

Maxine Joy McKinnon a cherished matriarch and radiant spirit, was born on March 21, 1928, in Wenatchee, Washington. She departed this life peacefully at her home in Huntington Beach, California, on July 12, 2025, leaving behind a legacy woven from love, faith, compassion, and a deep sense of family.

In her earlier years, Maxine proudly dedicated herself to the pursuit of health as a phlebotomist, an embodiment of care and service. Following the untimely passing of her beloved husband, Richard McKinnon, she embraced a new chapter, contributing her talents and warmth as a bank teller for a decade.

Maxine's life was a tapestry rich with memories; she created a nurturing home where love reigned supreme. Her cooking was legendary, crafting meals that not only nourished but also brought family together. An adept seamstress, her creations were a reflection of her artistic spirit, while her meticulously tended garden was a beautiful reflection of her talents. It was indeed the best yard on the block, serving as a metaphor for the vibrancy and life that she cultivated within her family.  She also enjoyed art, traveling, and having new adventures.

A woman of profound faith, Maxine found fulfillment in her Christian community and actively engaged in charitable endeavors, particularly through Life in the Lamb. Her personality radiated warmth and charm, enveloping those around her in a joy and comfort. There were few greater joys for Maxine than spending time with her family, encapsulating a love that was fierce and unwavering. To her, family was not just a priority but the proudest accomplishment of her life.

Maxine leaves behind a devoted family who will carry forward her spirit. She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Cochrane (and her husband Michael); her son, Douglas McKinnon; her granddaughters, Meghan Klingberg (and her husband Paul); Alexis Tompkins (and her husband Scott); and her cherished great-grandchildren, Ally, Scottie, and Andrew Tompkins. She joins her beloved husband, Richard McKinnon, and her dear family members, Fenton Kee (mother), Betty Watson (sister), and Patty Winget (sister), in eternal rest.

A memorial service celebrating Maxine's life will take place on August 30, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Chapman Funeral Home Orange, located at 702 E Chapman Ave, Orange, CA 92866.
