Rebecca “Becky” Jeanne Wiest, born on a wintry December 15, 1947, in St. Louis, MO, died in Arcadia, CA, on October 3, 2024. Her family gathered and surrounded her with love as she passed into the next life. Her choir family bid farewell by singing one of her favorite hymns, “God Be With You Till We Meet Again.”
Becky was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Hugo Dorn and Marian Eileen Gough. As a child, Becky cherished the beauty of nature, trips to the zoo, and swimming at Leaning Rock in Warrenton, MO. Her early skill in cooking blossomed into a lifelong passion, a gift she shared generously with family and friends.
Becky believed in God and went searching for Him, hand-in-hand, with her sister many Sundays. Her family’s move to Idaho introduced her to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which cultivated the kind of loving family she wished to create. She had found God and never left Him.
During her college years, Becky formed lasting friendships, hosted parties, worked multiple jobs, and still found time for midnight games of “PROBE” with friends. Her vibrant spirit, love of fun, and fierce loyalty stayed with her throughout her life.
On August 19, 1978, Becky married David Romney Wiest, the “goodest” man and kindest father, in Salt Lake City, UT. She prayed telling God how much she hated August, and asked if He could spare a cool day for her wedding. It snowed that evening.
Throughout her life, Becky pursued many careers, including Potato Picker, Actress, Medical Assistant, Court Transcriber, Caterer, Event Planner, and Executive Assistant. Her favorite career was being a Mother. Becky twice fulfilled her life’s greatest dream with the births of her sons.
Her boys grew up as best friends, sharing countless adventures. Both achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and went on to earn doctorates in their chosen fields, cherishing the love and support of their parents. They could always look forward to family dinners and time to play with Mom and Dad in the evenings.
Becky is survived by her siblings; Dr. Christine Wahlquist, David Yocum, and Richard Dorn; her loving husband, David; her two sons, Aaron (wife Celeste) and Landon (wife Vanessa); and her three adored grandchildren.
Becky’s memory lives on in the hearts of friends whom she adopted as family. Her beauty, spunkiness, and curly red hair were passed to her granddaughter. Her love of nature and great flavors is shared by her youngest grandson. Her imagination, kindness, and generosity live on in her older grandson.
We believe she lives on thanks to the grace and atonement of Jesus Christ. We look forward to the day we are reunited as a family. God be with you, Becky, till we meet again.
A funeral service and farewell banquet will be held on Saturday, October 26, from 9 AM to 12 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 614 W Foothill Blvd, Arcadia, CA. Becky loved flowers.
