Robert Austin Bowman
October 18, 1930 – October 24, 2025
Robert “Bob” Austin Bowman passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025, at the age of 95, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Long Beach, California on October 18, 1930 to James and Evelyn Bowman, Bob grew up with a strong sense of family and service. After graduating high school, he proudly served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954.
In 1954, Bob married the love of his life, Elvera (Vera) Silvia Bowman, and together they built a beautiful life in California filled with laughter, travel, and devotion to their family. Bob was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose warmth and humor touched everyone he met.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Vera; their three children, Caroline (and her late husband Sal), Cheryl (Drew), and Jeffrey (Shelley); his cherished grandchildren, Danny and Andrew (Heather), Sam and Emma, Brandon (Nikki), and Alex (Stephanie); and his great-grandson, Easton. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Evelyn Bowman, and son-in-law Sal.
A lifelong Bruins fan, Bob could always be found cheering for UCLA football on Saturday afternoons. He also loved cruising and exploring the world and the United States (except four) with Vera, and some of his happiest memories were made camping with family at Carpinteria - a tradition that continues to this day.
Bob’s kindness, loyalty, humor, and sense of adventure will be remembered by all who knew him. His legacy of love and family will live on through the generations he inspired.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery on October 30th. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
