Sarah was born south of Shafter California in the small unincorporated town of Rio Bravo to Serapio (Sam) Silva and Lucille G. Perret’. She was the fifth child of eight.
Sarah loved school, where she excelled in English and Writing. After graduating from Delano High School, she continued her education in Comptometer (new methods of calculation) training establishing herself as a professional Comptometer Operator. Sarah loved to dance and was part of the Swing Era when Americans were trying to forget the Great Depression. She would not only Ballroom dance but also, Jive, Jitterbug and Swing at popular venues like the Balboa Ball Room, Crystal Palace in Long Beach, Sweets Ballroom, Coconut Grove, and the Copacabana. While living in Costa Mesa California, Sarah met the love of her life, Marine Corps Master Sergeant David R. Sullivan, and they married in September 1951. The Marine Corps life involves moving to new states and for the Sullivan’s these states included Georgia, Tennessee, and Hawaii. Sarah often said she enjoyed living in Memphis Tennessee. In 1970 Sarah’s husband David passed away suddenly. Sarah and David had two children, David, and Paula.
After retirement Sarah enjoyed meeting with her sisters to shop in the garment district of Los Angeles and volunteering at the Costa Mesa Senior Center where she was passionate about supporting her friends in their many endeavors. She loved to cook for her grandchildren, especially her granddaughter who would often request her specialty soups. Upon turning 101, Sarah moved to Pacifica Senior Living Newport Mesa, where she lived out the remainder of her life.
